"A little child is born for us, and he shall be called the mighty God" (Entrance Antiphon). There is such a contrast between "little child" and "mighty God" that some people find the notion of God in human form as scandalous and so refuse to believe in Christianity. How, they ask, is it possible for God, who is infinite and eternal, to become a particular child born to a particular mother at a particular time in a particular village in a small country? All this "particularity" is such a contrast with the very idea of God that they think it is impossible and hence scandalous to believe such a thing. This "scandal of particularity" can only be resolved by the gift of faith and in itself is a potent reminder that faith is a gift from God. Faith assures us that "with God all things are possible" (Mt 19:24, Mk 10:27, Lk 1:37, 18:27), for God is eternal unconditional love and so works through these apparent contradictions, to love us in this particular way that he gave us his only son as a "little child" who was "mighty God" and thus saves and makes us holy for eternal life.

Father in heaven, we thank You for the gift of faith which opens our hearts to the mystery of creation, redemption and sanctification.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.
