Much is said in Proverbs of the capable and good wife. Women would probably have a few things to say about a good and capable husband. For both men and women, being a good spouse depends on dedication, commitment, and openness of heart. Good marriages do not just happen - they require a lot of hard work, patience, and sacrifice.

Paul warned that the Lord's return would happen suddenly, like a thief in the night. People seek 'peace and security' in wealth, law and order, control over others, and risk avoidance. These things mean little in God's sight. It is far more important to continue being children of the light in a world that has lost its way.

The parable of the talents is about how we conduct our lives while we wait for the Lord. Some people are so afraid of making a mistake or failing at something that they never take a risk. Like the third man in the story, they present to God only what was given to them in the beginning - nothing more. God expects us to return more than we were given, in the form of wisdom, love, and lessons learned. We need to love and trust God enough to take risks - even make mistakes - as we explore and learn new lessons. The real sin is never trying anything and being content with playing it safe. Our life is a precious gift - let us be the good and faithful servant. We show gratitude to God by giving back more than we received.

Lord, give me trust and courage.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.
