Several Psalms encourage us to “sing a new song unto the Lord.” Saint Augustine, reflecting on this invitation, asks “what new song can I sing?” and suggests that the best song I can ever sing to the Lord is the song of my own life. My life as a Christian will be a song most pleasing to God if I live according to the commandments and the spirit of the Gospel, and so become more like Jesus, fulfilling all the demands of my status in life and responding generously and faithfully to the call to holiness.

Let us recall and reflect on the affirmation of the Letter to the Ephesians: “We are God's work of art, created in Christ Jesus to lead the good life as from the beginning he meant us to live it” (Ephesians 2:10). The Greek word which is here translated as “work of art” is the word from which in English we get the word “poem”. We may, then, affirm that we are God's poem, God's song. Being what God created us to be means that we will become a living song of praise to the glory of God.

Father in heaven, grant each one of us the grace to lead a good life and so eternally become a new song to the glory of Your name.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.

PRAYING WITH THE CHURCH
INTENTION
That, rejecting the culture of indifference, we may care for our neighbors who suffer, especially the sick and the poor.
