Index of This Month

For the second time this month we celebrate the dedication of a Roman Basilica. While Church buildings are necessary and important for the practice of our religion, we realize that the Church is really the community of those whom God has guided through grace to faith in Jesus as Lord and Saviour. A church building is dedicated to the worship of God and the liturgical needs of the community. On the level of the individual believer, dedication and commitment are necessary elements of our faith. In the dedication ceremony the walls of the Church are anointed with holy oil and the spots where the anointing is done are marked with a cross. In Baptism and again in Confirmation we are anointed with holy oil and so our lives are marked by the Cross. This is a mystery which we acknowledge each time we make the sign of the cross at the beginning of prayer.

Father in heaven, may the dedication of our lives to you in Baptism and Confirmation be a continuous source of grace keeping our commitment in faith strong and vibrant as we live in union with Your Son Jesus, Our Lord, and marked by the sign of the cross.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.

PRAYING WITH THE CHURCH
INTENTION
That we may be open to personal encounter and dialogue with all, even those whose convictions differ from our own.
