In Jesus' parable, fidelity, trustworthiness and a sense of responsibility in small things will mean that we are capable of greater things and may even be given responsibility for them.

In fidelity to the Gospel and to our human reality, several saints have taught the importance of fidelity to God in little things as a pathway to holiness. St Paul teaches that God chooses the little ones, those who are unimportant in the world's eyes, rather than the great ones, to carry out the divine purpose. So it was in the beginning of the work of our salvation: God chose Mary of Nazareth and Jesus chose Galilean fishermen.

The little things we are asked to do recur on a daily basis and so may become bothersome or appear to be without any real significance. If God were to ask us to do something difficult and tremendous, and of course gives us the grace, wisdom and strength necessary to carry it out, we may feel that we would be able to do it, but the truth is that in the daily accomplishment of our small tasks, we need perhaps even more grace, wisdom and strength.

Father in heaven, in accomplishing our small daily tasks, teach us, like Mary, to see and appreciate the great things You do for us and through us for others.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.
