Today we hear the story of Martha and Mary. Jesus tells Martha that "Mary has chosen the better part." Why is it better to sit at Jesus' feet and listen to him? Can stopping to listen to Jesus really make a difference in our lives?

Francis of Assisi was the son of a cloth merchant. For several years, he was restless, searching for a more fulfilling way of life. One day while praying at the church of San Damiano, he heard the Lord say, "Francis, go rebuild my Church, which you see is falling into ruins."

It took time for Francis to understand the meaning of this message. It was an invitation, not to repair a building, but rather, to inspire people with new life. Francis responded by living simply, caring for the poor and appreciating the beauty of God's creation. This way of life reinvigorated the Church and inspired many others to follow Christ in this same way.

There are many voices and tasks in life. Like the young Francis, many people today are searching. Jesus invites us to settle our hearts and listen to him. Jesus' voice may be subtle. It may take patience to hear. Yet it brings blessing and direction.

Lord, help me to hear Your voice more clearly. Grant me courage to follow You.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.
