When we cloth ourselves in love, as the author of Colossians counsels us, we will live in perfect harmony with others and with God. When we let the peace of Christ rule in our hearts, allowing Christ's Word to dwell in us richly, we will be blessed and happy - and we will bless others with our mere presence. It is uncomplicated and simple, not necessarily easy, and it is the key to success as a human being. It is the entire reason we are on earth.

In the ancient Mediterranean world, an individual - especially a man - was closely identified with his father, village, social class, and work. One remained in the position of one's birth. Those listening to Jesus in the synagogue were scandalized and angry because they knew him: he is the carpenter's son; they know his family; who does he think he is? They were upset at Jesus for overreaching his position in society. This is the way God upsets us - by using very ordinary people and events to reveal Himself. God does not usually use the high and mighty, but the folks next door and maybe even us to do His work. Every human being is an instrument of God; no one is more important than another. We should not shrink back in fear when God wants to use us - it's not about being worthy or important but being willing and available. Joseph was such an individual. Are we?

Lord, may Your Word dwell in me.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.

PRAYING WITH THE CHURCH
INTENTION
That Christians in Africa, in imitation of the Merciful Jesus, may give prophetic witness to reconciliation, justice, and peace.
