Ezekiel was appointed by God as the watchman over the people of Israel. He was to guide and admonish them. He was appointed by God - we should remember so that we will not appoint ourselves as watchmen over the lives of others. The best policy is to set a good example and only give advice when asked. The passage from Matthew describes a very close-knit community with a high level of trust - something that we don't often find. In his context, those who were engaged in sinful behaviour were confronted by community members, and if all else failed, finally expelled. Again, we should be charitable, compassionate, and patient with others, helping them to shoulder their burdens and being a good friend. We are not moral policemen.

Paul has the right perspective: love fulfills the law. There is only one law, and that is love. All holiness and good behaviour flows from this. Love never seeks to harm another, and is always kind, compassionate, and supportive. People become obsessed with sins that are more visible and obvious, often ignoring this most important law. If we always practice love towards others, then we are on the right path. If we fail to love, we have taken the wrong path, regardless of how 'pure' we imagine ourselves to be. Let us examine our words, thoughts, and actions each day, asking ourselves if we have fulfilled the law.

Lord, may I be compassionate and supportive of others.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.

PRAYING WITH THE CHURCH
INTENTION
