In the Bible, human history has always been portrayed as a war between good and evil. The image of the woman clothed with the sun in Revelation illuminates Mary's role in this struggle - she brought forth our redeemer and exposed herself to many dangers and struggles. Her role is crucial. Paul insists that Jesus is in the process of overcoming and subduing all the powers that are opposed to God - even death itself. He is subduing and transforming the world completely before handing it over to God the Father. It is still in process - we aren't there yet - that is why it is so important to do our part in the struggle for justice and reconciliation.

Mary was both a woman of faith and of justice. Her song of praise exalted God not only for what God had done for her, but also for all Israel. God was preparing to turn the world upside down by pulling the powerful and arrogant down from their thrones and exalting the lowly and feeding the poor. Her God was not just the God of piety, but also justice and involvement in the lives of ordinary people. Mary is not someone distant from our pains and struggles but one who empathizes deeply and works for healing and justice.

Lord may my faith always seek justice for others.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.
