The friends of the sick man have deep faith. They firmly believe that Jesus can heal their friend. It may seem absurd to take apart a roof, but by doing this, the sick man can meet Jesus. When Jesus sees them, strangely, his first words are not about sickness, but rather about sins. "My friend, your sins are forgiven you" (Lk. 5:20). Jesus first forgives the man his sins and then heals his body.

Illness can bring intense physical suffering. Sometimes, however, there is an even sharper pain in life. Our sins can result in great harm and suffering in our souls. We crave peace and fulfillment but instead we find loneliness, anger, regret or fear. These can cause deep pain.

Jesus desires us to be healed in body and soul. He wants us to be at peace so that we can freely live out our calling. Advent is a time to take apart the roof, to remove the obstacles, so that we can come closer to Jesus. These days are an opportunity to ask for forgiveness and healing.

This Advent what do I need to bring most to the sacrament of reconciliation? This Adevnt, is there a particular wound in my life that needs Jesus' healing touch?

Lord of healing and forgiveness...I want to meet You.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.

PRAYING WITH THE CHURCH
INTENTION
That people, who are involved in the service and transmission of faith, may find, in their dialogue with culture, a language suited to the conditions of the present time.
