The first Passover celebrated the liberation of the children of Israel from slavery and danger. It was a passage from one type of life to another - the new life being one of freedom and the experience of God's nearness and compassion. Paul talks of the Lord's Supper in the same way - by gathering together in unity, compassion, equality, and empathy, believers experienced the world to come even while still alive. They also served as a sign to the world. Paul's anger targeted those who used it for selfish ends, thereby weakening it as a sign. The foot washing at the Last Supper was not written into the bible so that we could have a Holy Thursday ritual. It is a model of Christian life - humble and loving service, free of ego, self-seeking, and domination. It is to be lived every day, not just during Holy Week. It is what the Eucharist means; it is what our Christian faith means. We don't literally wash feet very often - what sort of things can we do to show the same reverence and respect for others? We will be given opportunities every day. The Eucharist or Lord's Supper is more than a ritual, it is a way of life.

Lord, may I be freed of my egoistic and self-seeking attitudes and serve You lovingly.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.

PRAYING WITH THE CHURCH
INTENTION
