The scriptures today, whether in the first reading, the gospel passage or the psalm seem to have one common message. That is, ultimately it is all about God as revealed in the Person of Jesus Christ and by the Spirit. Everything we are and do in life, or will be in death, finds its meaning in the Blessed Trinity. How earnestly Paul yearns for death so that he may be united with Christ forever. As he says, "Life to me is Christ, but death would bring something more." However, he is clearly aware that it is only by being alive that he can continue "doing work which is having good results". In the end, Paul reminds his readers that it does not really matter. Either in life or death, he cannot lose for it is all about glorifying Christ.

In his parable, Jesus gives an advice to both the guests and the host. Guests are urged not to yearn for the first places at the table. It is not only because such behaviour demonstrates their sense of self-promotion and pride, but that they may be honoured by the host. Therefore, guests are reminded not to seek worldly honour openly or even secretly but to employ self-humility. In other words, Jesus reminds his listeners that is not important whether they are first or last. Ultimately, it is the host who decides the places the guests will be seated. Yes, finally it is God who decides! May we, with the psalmist, cry out that is God whom we yearn for, and not for the things of this world.

Lord, may my soul thirst for You always.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.

PRAYING WITH THE CHURCH
