St. Leo the Great lived during challenging times (Pope from 440-461). The Church was still clarifying what we believe as Christians. St. Leo taught that Jesus is both human and divine. This may seem obvious to us now, however, there was much debate at the time.

Theologically, Jesus' identity as both God and man faciliates his roles as saviour and as mediator for humanity.

Spiritually, since Jesus is fully human, he can relate deeply with you and I. Jesus knows first hand what it means to feel hurt, feel joy, be tempted…everything it means to be fully human. Accordingly, we can come to Jesus at any time and know that he will have compassion for us.

Since Jesus is also God, however, he can do much more than simply listen. He can bless us with what we need most.

St. Paul writes today, "There is nothing I cannot do in the One who strengthens me." (Phil. 4:13). Paul has discovered that Jesus is the source of strength and freedom.

What do I need most in life at this time…strength, healing, peace, wisdom…? Trust is Jesus' compassion, ask the Lord for what you need.

Lord, thank You for sharing in our humanity so that we may share in Your divinity.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.

PRAYING WITH THE CHURCH
INTENTION
That the language of love and dialogue may always prevail over the language of conflict.
