The Ephesians were encouraged to be kind and loving. Living in love was essential if the love of Christ was to be shown to others. Love would be the way that others would see a difference in the followers of Christ and would be drawn to Christ. The followers of Christ were to live pure lives in obedience to God. No longer were they living in darkness, but Christ had brought them into the light. We are also called to live as "children of light", the beloved daughters and sons of God. May we draw others to Christ as we interact with others in a kind and loving way.

Jesus was teaching in the synagogue on the sabbath when a woman who had been crippled for eighteen years entered. Being crippled for such a long time meant that the woman would have been marginalized in society. Jesus had compassion upon her and restored her with his healing touch. This would have been life-changing for the woman and she did not hesitate to praise God! Jesus was criticized for healing on the sabbath. He responded that the woman, who was a "daughter of Abraham", should be shown as much kindness as the animals on the sabbath. Jesus' actions illustrated that mercy and compassion were at the centre of Jesus' ministry. We are called to follow his example.

Lord, create in me a compassionate heart!

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.

PRAYING WITH THE CHURCH
INTENTION
That consecrated religious men and women may bestir themselves, and be present among the poor, the marginalized, and those who have no voice.
