Agur had been questioning about creation and God. He recognized his own limitations in the light of God's wisdom. Yet Agur demonstrated wisdom in the two requests he made of God. He asked God to keep him from falsehood and lying and to give him a balanced life with neither poverty nor riches. The author recognized that when we are given only what we need, we rely on God but when we have more than enough, we often forget the Giver of all. Attachment to things is the concern. What a different world we would experience if there were no falsehood and lying and if we all recognized God as the Creator and Giver of all!

Jesus commissioned and empowered the twelve disciples to go out and continue Jesus' own ministry by proclaiming the kingdom of God and by healing. This Gospel reading picks up the theme of detachment as the disciples were instructed not to take anything for their journey. They were to rely completely on God who would provide everything they needed. A further instruction regarding those who would not welcome the disciples provides wisdom for our interactions with others today. There are times when it is better to remain silent rather than argue with others about the Good News of Jesus Christ. The Holy Spirit will let us know when to speak and when to be quiet.

Lord, help me to listen and to follow Your way.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.
