"Today, this Scripture is fulfilled in your hearing". In these words, Jesus gives us a clear guideline to help us to understand him, his life and his mission. He had just finished reading a passage from the book of the Prophet Isaiah: Luke tells us that he unrolled the scroll and found he passage which he read. The obvious implication of what Luke says is that Jesus knew what passage he intended to read to the synagogue congregation. It was not by accident that he happened to read this particular passage. He teaches us that the best way to understand him is to understand what Isaiah has to say about God's salvation of Israel and of all mankind. Much of the Old Testament seems to indicate that God would bring liberation and salvation to Israel by destroying their enemies. Isaiah had attained the great insight that God's salvation would come through the suffering of a faithful Servant: it will not be attained by martial force or military might. Jesus is telling us that he had accepted Isaiah's insight as his vocation. Filled with the Holy Spirit, he would be a channel of God's truth and peace not an instrument of vengeance or of suffering for others.

Lord Jesus, as you have called us to be your disciples, grant that in all things we will be true channels of truth and peace.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.

PRAYING WITH THE CHURCH
INTENTION
That young people, especially in Latin America, follow the example of Mary and respond to the call of the Lord to communicate the joy of the Gospel to the world.
