"Your ways, O Lord, make known to me; teach me your paths". In the Reflection above for Wednesday of the Second week of Lent, we spoke of the way Jesus continued to teach and form his disciples. Today in response to the Responsorial psalm's plea to God to teach us and guide us, let us continue that reflection today, for the third time that Jesus spoke to the disciples about his Passion and death, as we read especially in Mark 9:32. They did not understand what Jesus said and were afraid to ask him, but at least there was no longer any rejection of the idea of Jesus' death. It is only really at the resurrection and then with the coming of the Spirit that they will fully understand and accept the mystery which they revolted against:Our faith is enlightened and strengthened by the resurrection and the coming of the Holy Spirit and so teaches us not to be afraid to ask God to teach us, for there is much about life and death that we do not fully understand. Because of Jesus' resurrection and the gift of the Holy Spirit, we are formed to go beyond any lack of understanding to a full acceptance of what Jesus meant, for he is the truth incarnate and "to whom else can we go since he has the words of eternal life" as Peter affirmed (Jn 6:67).
