The people in the room were grieving at the loss of a kind, generous, and loving woman - Dorcas. She had selflessly made clothes for so many, and now she was gone. But wait - Peter entered, and filled with the Spirit, he commanded her to rise. And she did! This is not part of our everyday experience, but it tells us that the Spirit of the Lord was with the apostles in a powerful way in the early Church. But the Spirit is not dead and has not departed. We need to ask God to rekindle the fire in our hearts - there is much work to be done in our suffering and bleeding world.

Many of the followers of Jesus were scandalized by his insistence that they must eat his body and drink his blood if they wanted eternal life. It sounded crazy and disgusting. Many left him at this point, and Jesus then asked Peter if he and the others were going to leave too. But Peter replied wisely: to whom can we go? You have the words of eternal life. He didn't understand everything at this point, but realized that if he stayed with Jesus, he would grow in his understanding. We will not have all the answers either, but it is important that we do not turn our back on the Lord. More will be revealed to us when we are ready, and the time is right. Jesus has the words of eternal life.

Lord, help me to grow in my understanding of Your words.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.

PRAYING WITH THE CHURCH
INTENTION
That the Church in Africa, through the commitment of its members, may be the seed of unity among her peoples and a sign of hope for this continent.
