Perhaps we can remember a time when others let us down or even betrayed us. We could become bitter and cynical, and many take this path. Paul laments that he was mistreated by others and stood alone for a while, but he rejoices in the fact that God was with him always and was the source of his strength. People might let us down; God will never disappoint us or let us down. Let us put our hope and confidence in the Lord.

The seventy-two disciples sent out by Jesus had a simple mission: they were to heal the sick, cast out demons, and proclaim the arrival of the kingdom of God. They were to travel light - no luggage to hinder them - and were to rely on the kindness and hospitality of others. They did not need an institution, money, influence, training, or equipment. The Spirit and the power of the Lord were enough. We can all follow in their footsteps - anyone can engage in ministry of some sort. And we can learn as a Church to travel light and rely more on the Lord. In these troubled times, we must be energetic, filled with the Spirit, and on the move.

Lord, empower me to help and serve others.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.

PRAYING WITH THE CHURCH
INTENTION
That the breath of the Holy Spirit engender a new missionary "spring" in the Church.
