In today's Gospel reading, Jesus pointed out an important aspect of Christian living. For Jesus, the human person is more important than the observance of the law of the Sabbath. Jesus saw laws from the perspective of human need. This explains how he responded to all who approached Him for healing of different kinds.

"The Son of Man is Lord of the Sabbath." This implies that Jesus is Lord over all the Jewish laws. For us, when we reflect on this passage, we use the same yardstick for interpreting laws which is based on the needs and rights of the people.

We cannot be preoccupied with the letter of the law for obedience to God's will is more important. God has come to give life, life to the full! We are called to give life and not to destroy it. With faith and trust we know the Kingdom values are far above all other laws and rules.

The same sentiment is expressed by Paul in the first reading. He expressed his care and love for the Colossians. His advice served as guidance thus leading them to the right path and that firm foundation of their faith was of utmost importance and this is what they needed at all times.
