The Centurian's faith is truly amazing, but when we consider his great love for his servant and the trouble he took to get him healed, we begin to realise that his Love was the basis of his faith. Jesus saw this surely.

He was surprised at the lack of such faith among the Jewish people he had been instructing till then.

The Centurian's humility is striking. He recognises Jesus's authority over everything is even greater than his authority over his battalion of soldiers. He could have had the privilege of greeting this great man personally. Yet he felt humbled. He was not worthy.

All he desired was a word that could heal his servant. He did not want to trouble the great Teacher any further!

All of us have this privilege of welcoming the Lordinto our lives each time we receive Communion! Yet it is often a casual event! We forget the moment the event is over!
