The apostles had been arrested for preaching about Jesus. They enraged the Sanhedrin authorities by insisting on obeying God rather than human beings.

Gamaliel, a Pharisee in the Sanhedrin, was wise and reminded the others of similar situations in the past where other movements headed by false prophets were short-lived. He advised that this could be the case here.

If the Jesus movement were from God, they might be opposing God. The Sanhedrin listened, and the apostles went back to preaching about Jesus.

Are we that faithful in telling others about Jesus?

Jesus asked Philip where they could get enough food for all the people to test him. Jesus already knew what he was going to do. But Philip was overwhelmed with the thought of feeding so many. Andrew drew Jesus' attention to the boy who had five loaves and two fish, but that seemed far too little for the crowd.

Jesus gave thanks and blessed the small amount of food. He multiplied the food and distributed them to the crowd with much being left over. What an example of God's grace and generosity! Jesus slipped away because he knew the people had been impressed and wanted him to be their king.

Lord, help me to be generous and humble like Jesus.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.
