Over a thousand years ago, Saint Augustine reflected on this passage of John's Gospel to ask how Jesus would prepare a place for us in heaven (his Father's house). Furthermore, if there are already many dwelling places in our Father's house, why does Jesus need to prepare a place for us? Augustine suggested that Jesus prepares a place for us by preparing us for a place in heaven. Jesus prepared us all through his public life by revealing God to us in his teachings and actions, particularly in the great act of the Paschal mystery, his passion, death and resurrection.

Jesus, through the gift of Your Holy Spirit in the ministry of the Church, continues the work of preparing us for a place in our Father's House.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.

PRAYING WITH THE CHURCH
INTENTION
That deacons, faithful in their service to the Word and the poor, may be an invigorating symbol for the entire Church.
