Paul was emphasizing the unity of Gentiles and Jews through Christ. Because of Christ, Jews and Gentiles were united in a new community with God. The evidence of this was in the church where no one was a stranger, and all were treated alike. All now had access to God the Father through the Spirit.

The community of believers embodied the presence of God. Today we say that the presence of Christ is in the assembly of believers. Do we treat our fellow parishioners as we would treat Jesus?

Jesus was speaking about faithfulness and watchfulness. The disciples believed Jesus would return very soon after his ascension into heaven. This teaching underlined the importance of being ready when Jesus appeared.

The faithful and watchful disciple would be rewarded with the company of the Lord. This meant being prepared at all times for no one knew when Jesus would be coming again. Self-discipline and preparation were particularly important.

Today we no longer have the same expectation that Jesus- return is imminent; however, we must always live knowing that Jesus is right here with us at all times.

Lord, help me always to be aware of Your presence.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.

PRAYING WITH THE CHURCH
INTENTION
That by virtue of baptism, the laity, especially women, may participate more in areas of responsibility in the Church.
