Stephen had been accused of speaking against the Law, but he turned this around and accused the Jews of not obeying the Law, not even listening to the Holy Spirit.

The crowd was enraged, but Stephen fixed his eyes toward heaven. When he declared that he saw the glory of God and Jesus standing beside him, the crowd could take no more. Stephen was driven out of the city and stoned. Stephen was faithful to his death. In the crowd approving of Stephen's stoning was Saul. He became Paul after his encounter with Christ.

Today's passage from John is significant. The crowd wanted a sign from Jesus to demonstrate his authority. When the crowd mentioned manna in the desert, Jesus clarified that God provided the manna, not Moses.

When the crowd asked for the true bread from God, which they only understood in a literal way, Jesus surprised them by claiming, "I am the bread of life". He then said, that no one would ever hunger or thirst if they came to him and believed in him.

Have you allowed Jesus to feed you the bread of life?

Lord, help me to believe in my heart that You are the true source of life.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.

PRAYING WITH THE CHURCH
INTENTION
We pray for those who risk their lives while fighting for fundamental rights under dictatorships, authoritarian regimes and even in democracies in crisis.
