The beautiful image of the holy city of Jerusalem coming down from heaven does not describe a place or a thing. It is a symbol of the human soul that lives in full awareness of God. It can be understood as a state of consciousness in which we behold the beauty of God and the divine realm.

We begin to experience this as we purify our hearts, minds, and souls and walk continually in the ways of the Lord. Nathaniel was not impressed with a messiah hailing from Nazareth, which was an insignificant little village not even mentioned in the Old Testament. But he was impressed that Jesus already knew him and had seen him under the fig tree even before Philip called him.

Nathaniel enthusiastically proclaimed Jesus the Son of God and the King of Israel. Jesus promised that he would see even greater things: angels descending and ascending on the Son of Man - Jesus himself. Jesus was signifying that he was the gateway or portal to the heavenly realms and the door through which all must pass. Let us always stand before that door seeking and knocking, knowing that it will be opened for us.

Lord, lead me into Your light.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.

PRAYING WITH THE CHURCH
INTENTION
Let us pray for the Church, that She may receive from the Holy Spirit the grace and strength to reform herself in the light of the Gospel.
