The Jews were in exile in Babylon, but God did not want them to lose heart. God wanted them to know that Israel would be restored eventually. God would be the strength of Israel. Israel would be "a light to the nations", and God's salvation would reach beyond Israel to all the nations of the world. In this way, God would be glorified throughout the whole world. We are also called to be a light bringing others to God.

Jesus had just washed the disciples' feet and told them that they were to do the same for others. Almost immediately, Jesus became troubled and shared with the disciples that there was a traitor among them. He pointed out the traitor's identity by giving Judas a piece of bread and telling him to leave quickly. Satan then entered Judas, and it was night. Evil things were about to happen. When Jesus told his disciples that he would not be with them much longer, Peter wanted to go with Jesus, but Jesus refused. Then Peter said he would lay down his life for Jesus, but Jesus predicted Peter's betrayal. How do we betray Jesus?

Lord, help me to be faithful to You and Your teachings.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.

PRAYING WITH THE CHURCH
