In his letter to Timothy, Paul mentions his former sins and his call and repentance and ministry. The point he is trying to make is that Christ came into the world for sinners like him. Paul declares himself to be the greatest of sinners because he formerly persecuted the Church. Therefore, Paul's total conversion from sin to ministry becomes the moral example for Timothy and all Christians. In other words, Paul is saying, "I am a good example of what can happen if you turn to and trust in Christ."

Christians are not always perfect when called, but they are expected to be totally converted to God in Christ. They cannot be people who profess "Lord, Lord" but do not keep the commandments of God. Those who call upon the name of Jesus must demonstrate the reality and the quality of the relationship. They will only be able to do this if they hear his Word and put it into action.

Jesus uses two different fruit-tree images to make the point about the source of a person's action. The fruit tells whether or not the tree is healthy. Our actions verify our true relationship with God. Jesus also uses the image of the two builders to emphasise that those whose faith is founded on God's commandments is like a man who builds his house on the rock. It will remain strong. But those whose faith is not built on God's commandments is likened to a man who builds his house on sand. In times of trouble and trials, it will be "washed away".

Lord, may my faith be founded on Your Word.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.

PRAYING WITH THE CHURCH
INTENTION
