The Jews had started rebuilding the Temple in Jerusalem, but it was difficult work. The prophet Haggai delivered an encouraging message from the Lord. The people were to take courage; the Lord was with them. The Lord reminded the people that his spirit was with them just as it had been when they fled from Egypt. The Lord would look after everything and would bring prosperity according to his covenant with the people. But the Lord required them to work hard to rebuild the Temple. Since God dwelled in the Temple, it was important that they make it a priority. Then God would again dwell in their land.

Jesus had been praying, and then he asked his disciples who people were saying that Jesus was. Because of his teachings and healings, the people thought Jesus was a prophet. Then Jesus asked his disciples the question that we all must answer: "Who do you say that I am?" Immediately Peter said that Jesus was the "Messiah of God." How would Peter have known that? What is your answer to that question, and what evidence do you have for your response?

Lord, help me to make You the top priority in my life.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.

PRAYING WITH THE CHURCH
INTENTION
