Despite all the mistakes he had made in his life, David was not afraid to ask God for favours. He acknowledged all of God's kindness and mercy towards him in the past in his humble prayer. This was an exercise in gratitude, and he praised and blessed the name of God. He then went on to ask God to bless and protect his entire house and all his descendants. It never occurred to him that God might refuse; he knew God well.

When we ask the Lord for something in prayer, we should always be grateful to remember all that God has done for us in the past. God cannot give gratitude to himself - only we can offer that. When God has gifted us with the Spirit, and we begin to grow spiritually in the Lord, it should not remain hidden. Our light and love should be clear to all in our words and deeds. This is not so we can feel proud, for all that we have is a gift. It is merely sharing what God has done for us and in us. Most often, this will not even be expressed in words but in what has become: hope and blessings for others. The only true spirituality is blessed, broken and shared.

Lord, may I share all the blessings You have given me.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.

PRAYING WITH THE CHURCH
INTENTION
We pray for all those suffering from religious discrimination and persecution; may their own rights and dignity be recognised, which originate from being brothers and sisters in the human family.
