The prophet Jeremiah was opposed by others because of his warnings of doom. He complained about his enemies and felt that God had abandoned him. Regardless of being upset with God and railing against God, Jeremiah begged God to take retribution on his enemies. He ended with praises for God. Jeremiah expressed his deep concerns, yet he was still faithful to God. Is this not the way that humans think in times of trouble?

The reason the Jews were ready to stone Jesus is that Jesus had just declared, "The Father and I are one." (John 10:30) This was considered blasphemous, and stoning was the punishment for blasphemy. Jesus' defence rested on the good works that He had been doing in the name of the Father - the good works were evidence that the Father was in Jesus and Jesus was in the Father. Jesus and the Father were one. Jesus escaped the crowd and went to the Jordan where John had testified about Jesus, and many had believed. The testimony of a trusted person carries great weight.

Lord, help me to tell others of Your unconditional love.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.

PRAYING WITH THE CHURCH
INTENTION
We pray for health care workers who serve the sick and the elderly, especially in the poorest countries; may they be adequately supported by governments and local communities.
