Gamaliel, a Pharisee, defended the Apostles. He pointed out other would-be messiahs whose movements had been short-lived because they were false prophets. Gamaliel said that if this Jesus movement were of human origin, then it would also be short-lived; however, if it were from God, then they might find themselves fighting against God. The council listened to Gamaliel and released the Apostles after having them flogged. The Apostles felt it was a privilege to suffer for the sake of Jesus! Do we ever suffer for the Gospel?

Jesus and the disciples were resting on a mountain when crowds of people joined them. Jesus was concerned that the people would be hungry, so he asked Philip what to do. Jesus was testing the disciples for He already knew what He would do. The result was the feeding of that great crowd from the boy's five barley loaves and two fish. Moreover, there were twelve baskets leftover! God always provides an abundance for all people. This sign convinced the people that Jesus was the promised one. Are you convinced that Jesus is the Son of God?

Lord, thank You for Your gift of abundant life in Christ.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.

PRAYING WITH THE CHURCH
INTENTION
We pray for health care workers who serve the sick and the elderly, especially in the poorest countries; may they be adequately supported by governments and local communities.
