At the instigation of some Jews from Antioch and Iconium, Paul and Barnabas are attacked with stones by the people. Thinking he was dead, the people dragged Paul outside the town and left him there. However, to the amazement of the believers, not only was Paul alive. He gets up and walks back right into town. Then, instead of hiding or resting from their injuries, Paul and Barnabas set off the following day to continue their mission. Each town they taught built-up church communities and appointed elders. In this way, they set up the structures that would help the community continue after they had departed. Their actions show that the work of God cannot be obstructed, nor should his messengers be discouraged, even when faced with difficult circumstances.

In his gospel, the evangelist John reminds the believers of his community that the fear and uncertainty they are experiencing while waiting for the return of Christ must give way to the peace that comes from Jesus. This peace is a divine gift, like joy or salvation. It is the abiding gift of Jesus that is present during his absence. John also reminds the believers that they must rejoice because, despite the challenges and obstacles He faced, Jesus has accomplished His mission and has returned to the Father.

Ultimately, in the challenging circumstances of our lives, even in moments of struggle and suffering, God brings everything to fulfilment. Like Paul and Barnabas, and Jesus, we must never give up to trust God and do His will.

Lord, may I never be discouraged.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.

PRAYING WITH THE CHURCH
INTENTION
We pray for young people, called to live life to the fullest; may they see in Mary's life the way to listen, the depth of discernment, the courage that faith generates, and the dedication to service.
