Paul had it made. He was successful in his religious tradition and community and had a good reputation. But now, he said that everything he had accomplished was worthless rubbish compared to the joy of knowing Jesus Christ. His life was changed; he was transformed. Now he would press on towards the end of his goal with a sense of urgency. If only our relationship with Christ were as important to us!

Jesus praises the dishonest manager who got out of trouble by altering his master's accounts and giving his creditors a substantial 'discount'. Jesus did not mean we should be dishonest but shrewd, resourceful, and careful with our money. The manager did not just sit there and wait for events to overtake him – he was enterprising and alert. He used the money to ensure that he would be treated well in the future.

In a similar way, Jesus urged his followers to use their money to help others, especially the poor. In that way, they would be welcomed into the heavenly homes of those they had helped. And we build our dwellings in eternity by the decisions we make today.

Lord, may I always be open-hearted and generous. Amen.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.
