John's vision places praise and honour where they belong – on God, whose judgments are just and true and whose power extends to all the earth and the end of the universe. God is the one we need to trust and in whose path we need to walk. When we do this, we thrive and are transformed, but painful consequences often follow once we stray from the path.

Luke envisions a time when the followers of Jesus will be persecuted and dragged before authorities and courts. Jesus encourages His followers not to be afraid but to stand fast and be strong. Those who can withstand trials and tribulations will 'possess their souls'. In other words, by our fidelity and courage, we will have formed the soul-person we will be for eternity. Struggles, trials, and difficulties are not bad things but the instruments by which we fashion our souls. We need not fear, for the Lord is with us every step of the way. Patience is the key: meeting every challenge with faith, hope, and love.
