The Book of Proverbs contains many short statements that advise how to live. In today's reading, there is advice concerning relations with one's neighbour. A person should pay their neighbour what is owed. No one should plan any harm to their neighbour. Quarrelling and envy are not the way of the Lord. Humility and wisdom are what the Lord expects. This is good advice for us today as we try to live harmoniously with others.

Jesus was talking about lighting the way for people. He encouraged the disciples to speak and act in such a way that they would be a light for people to find their way to Jesus. Jesus continued by encouraging the people to listen carefully. Careful listening draws others to see Jesus and to grow in understanding. This requires steadfastness and persistence. Listening carefully andfollowing what Jesus taught enables a person to be a light for others. Both of these readings show us the way to live as a witness to the love of God in our lives. This is the most effective way for people to see Jesus in our world.

Lord, help me to be a witness to Your love.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.

PRAYING WITH THE CHURCH
