Today is Holy Thursday. Tonight is the night we remember that the Lord was betrayed. It was also the night when "the Lord Jesus took some bread, thanked God for it ... broke it, and ... said, 'This is My body, which is for you; do this as a memorial of Me' (1 Cor 11:23-24). It was also the night when "He took the cup ... and said, 'This cup is the new covenant in My blood. Whenever you drink it, do this as a memorial of Me'" (1 Cor 11:25).

Tonight is a holy night that looks back at the first Passover (1446 B.C.) when the Israelites received instructions to smear the blood of the sacrificial animal on their doorposts and lintel so that they would be passed over from the death of the first-born and be released from their 400 years of Egyptian slavery (Ex 12:7,13). Likewise, on Good Friday, when the Lord Jesus, the Lamb of God, was sacrificed on the Cross, He became our Passover Lamb. Thus, we who confess Him are forever passed over from eternal death (the penalty for our sins) and move on to the inheritance of eternal life.

Tonight, as we receive the Body and the Blood of our Lord Jesus Christ, let us ponder and remember with deep and heartfelt thankfulness, the Lord's sacrificial death - His sufferings (passion), His broken Body, and His shed Blood on the Cross for us.

Lord, may we learn how to give ourselves generously to You and others in love and service.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.
