How do I view the law? Is it a heavy set of obligations? Is the law ancient and irrelevant? Does the law apply to my daily life?

Laws given by God to the people of Israel are described in the book of Deuteronomy. The first reading reveals something powerful: if people keep and live out the law, they will grow in wisdom and understanding. Keeping the law draws people closer to God.

How does Jesus view the law? In the Gospel, we see that Jesus greatly respects every part of it. Jesus has come not to abolish the law but to fulfil it.

In the verses that follow, Jesus guides us beyond the letter of the law to discover the deeper wisdom of the law. He provides vivid examples regarding murder, adultery and divorce. Then Jesus speaks about the heart and foundation of the law-love.

If we are to receive the wisdom and life of the law, we need to acknowledge its most profound meaning-a call to love God, others and self. In life, there are few things more relevant than love.

What law of the Bible do I most appreciate? Which law challenges me most?

Jesus, help me to see with Your eyes, to discover the wisdom of the law...and to act with love.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.

PRAYING WITH THE CHURCH
INTENTION
We pray for those who have suffered harm from members of the Church; may they find within the Church herself a concrete response to their pain and suffering.
