Today's first reading from the Book of Maccabees gives us much to reflect on. We see the seven sons bravely facing martyrdom to uphold the laws of their ancestors and not violate God's laws as they understand them. Their mother, valiant in the face of so much suffering, encourages her sons in their sacrifice. She reflects on their lives and realizes that they were given to her by God, the origin of everything. She now selflessly gives them back to God, knowing they will be rewarded in the next life.

What is my response as I reflect on my life and the gift of faith I have received from God? How do I face the difficulties in life and the demands that living my Christian faith can sometimes make on me? Do I have faith and trust enough in God to uphold Christian values when facing difficult situations?

Perhaps as a mother, I am sometimes called to stand by my children in difficult situations, sickness, disappointment, or tragic circumstances. Where does my strength come from? Am I like the person in the Gospel who uses all the gifts and resources that God has given me, or do I store up the little I have for fear of losing it?

Lord, we ask for the courage to live out our Christian commitment to the full so that when faced with difficult choices, we may choose what is best in Your eyes.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.

PRAYING WITH THE CHURCH
INTENTION
We pray for the Holy Father, as he fulfills his mission, may he continue to accompany the flock entrusted to him, with the help of the Holy Spirit.
