Addressing his disciples, John the Baptist further affirms that the One who is from above, sent by God, speaks God's words and bears witness to the things of heaven, is superior to one who is earthly born and speaks about earthly things. John finds no dispute if the One from heaven is attracting more followers and believers.

John the Baptist is referring to Jesus, the One from above, foreshadowing the coming of the Messiah, the Son of God who obeys the Will of the Father even unto death on the Cross and offers those who believe in Him eternal life. Those who refuse and are envious will lock themselves in anger.

In the Acts of the Apostles, when Peter and the Apostles were warned not to preach the Gospel by the Sanhedrin, they responded courageously to the authority and boldly proclaimed that the One whom they crucified was the Saviour for He offers forgiveness and eternal life to those who believe. Peter and the Apostles were empowered by the Holy Spirit to bear witness to the truth without fear. For them, it was clear, obedience in accordance to God first, then man. Comparably, the chief priests and the Sanhedrin, who chose to reject Jesus, were in accordance to man-made obedience, power and status.

Let our obedience move our hearts to listen to His voice, that we become witnesses of Christ and receive the grace to speak the truth boldly.

"Come, Holy Spirit, and enkindle within us the fire of Your love!"

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.
