Evil always looks for a weak point in attacking an individual or a community. Often that weak point is arrogance, pride, and discord. Peter advises his flock to humble themselves, be disciplined, and always be on the alert. Believers were facing persecution at the time, and the day may come when we will again. In the meantime, know that the devil is on the prowl like a hungry lion. Let us take care not to become his food.

Jesus gave the Apostles their marching orders. They were to proclaim the good news to all creation. The wording is important - not only people, but creation itself was saved by the death and resurrection of Jesus. This should inspire us to be more respectful towards our planet, for creation is treasured by God. Jesus said that believers would be able to drink poison and handle deadly serpents - but don't even try it. That would be putting God to the test. It was another way of saying that we should fear nothing.

Lord, help me to proclaim the good news to others with fervour to care for creation.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.

PRAYING WITH THE CHURCH
INTENTION
Let us pray that the dignity and worth of women be recognised in every culture, and for an end to the discrimination they face in various parts of the world.
