David's behaviour illustrates the thinking of a righteous person. Saul had been pursuing David to kill him and unknowingly, he walked into the cave where David and his men were resting. David had the perfect opportunity to kill Saul, but he didn't. Why not? David respected Saul's position as God's anointed one. He did not respect Saul's behaviour, but he did respect his position. It is interesting, though, that David wasn't humble enough just to let Saul to leave - he wanted Saul to know that he behaved more righteously than Saul. Are we willing to follow God's Will without bragging about it?

In Mark's Gospel, Jesus chose His disciples on a mountain. In the Bible a mountain is often the site of an encounter with God. Earlier Jesus had called Simon Peter and his brother Andrew as well as James and John who were also brothers. Now He stepped away from the crowds and named twelve to be His Apostles. These men were not educated but Jesus knew that they were willing. God is interested in our availability, He will provide the ability.

Lord, help me to be willing to do Your work and to trust that You will provide.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.

PRAYING WITH THE CHURCH
INTENTION
For the Gift of Diversity in the Church: Let us pray that the Spirit will help us recognise the gift of different charisms within the Christian community, and to discover the richness of different ritual traditions in the heart of the Catholic Church.
