This is the first of the "servant songs" in Isaiah in which the servant represents Israel. God had given His Spirit into the hearts of His people. They would be gentle and would bring justice to the world. God created the world and all that was in it. The Israelites were called by God to be a covenant to all people. A covenant is binding even if one party breaks the covenant, the other party must continue to keep the covenant. That was a great responsibility that was given to the Israelites and that is the calling of a servant.

People have always reacted differently to Jesus. Mary, Martha, and Lazarus welcomed Jesus to their home. Mary especially, wanted to show her love for Jesus by anointing his tired feet with expensive oil. Judas resented spending the money on oil for Jesus' feet. People flocked to Bethany to see Lazarus as they had heard that Jesus had raised him from the dead. Then there were the chief priests who wanted to kill Lazarus to stop people from following Jesus. Each person had their own understanding of Jesus and His teaching. This understanding is projected in the faithful running of a person's responsibility and role. Does my duty lead others to see the faithfulness of God?

Lord, help me to perform my duty faithfully so as to follow Jesus faithfully.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.

PRAYING WITH THE CHURCH
INTENTION
Let us pray that those who risk their lives for the gospel in various parts of the world might imbue the Church with their courage and missionary drive.
