What is the key requirement for discipleship? It is not lip service; rather, it is the ability to walk the talk and do the Will of God. The contrasting images that Jesus gives of a house built on rock and the other, on sand, is to dispel the illusion that a person can purport to be a Christian without really living as one. Trials and temptations of life will reveal the authenticity of each disciple.
The true disciple is not fearful of any disasters or calamities - natural or man-made, because Jesus has authority over all and he/she is completely dependent on God. The false disciple has founded life on him/herself, the master of his/her own destiny. Religion is only a frontage, a façade that is useful to project a certain public persona that works to one's advantage in life. However, when trials come, when disaster strikes, this person has nothing to fall back on. This is why the Lord calls it stupidity when the foundation of one's life is sand that gets washed away in the storm. It is still not too late to change the foundation of our life from the sands of illusion to the capstone of God Himself.
God, You are my rock!
