We can almost see the messenger running along the mountains and shouting joyously 'Your God reigns!' Bearing good news is always a happy task, and this is the best news possible. God is in control and if we look carefully with our spiritual sight, we will be able to see God's Will unfolding and coming to pass. In these dark times we need to feel this good news and express it more often.
Hebrews follows that up by proclaiming that the Christ has received all power and is the One directing the world. He is the exact imprint of God the Father, and He holds all things together. Let us not be frightened by the world's chaos and negativity.
The beginning verses of John tell us the whole story - the Word that was with God and was God became flesh and dwelt among us - and the darkness could not overcome it. God became what we are so that we might become what God is. We are promised rebirth if we accept the Son and the words of eternal life. And what God has loved so passionately we can never despise or mistreat - we must love all creation and all people, just as God does. These first eighteen verses can be chanted and savoured until they become part of our heart and soul.
O Lord, I pray for spiritual rebirth today on Christmas Day.
