St Paul reminds the Thessalonians of the example he and his companions gave while living among them. They work diligently, never becoming a burden to the others. He stresses discipline, responsibility and the dignity of labour, warning against idleness. Yet his message is deeper than simply earning a livelihood. It is about how we live together as a community. Laziness and disorderly conduct weaken the body of Christ, while diligence, responsibility and service to others strengthen it. St Paul's words prompt us to examine that true discipleship is expressed in faithful living, responsible work, and building up the community.

In the Gospel, while some marvel at the grandeur of the temple, Jesus reminds them that even such mighty structures will one day fall. His disciples are not to be shaken by appearances, rumours or turmoil. Instead, they are to remain steadfast and not be led astray.

These readings create a powerful balance. St Paul teaches us to live responsibly and faithfully while Jesus teaches us not to cling tightly to worldly securities. Our true foundation is Christ Himself. Where do we place our security? Do we rely too much on wealth, power or status that will eventually fade away? Jesus calls us to anchor our lives in Him, the One who endures forever. Though turmoil and change surround us, disciples are called to persevere with courage, trusting always in the steadfast presence of God.

Jesus, I place my trust in You.
