One day Jesus is invited to the house of a Pharisee to have a meal. Jesus mixes with all kinds of people - tax collectors and Pharisees, religious people and non-religious people. He reaches out to all; no one is excluded. However, on this occasion the Pharisee is a little shocked that Jesus goes directly to the dining table without first washing His hands as the Jewish Law laid down. Jesus then criticises the Pharisees in general for being careful about the cleanliness of the outside of the cup even though inside, it is full of greed and evil. The Law emphasised external actions but Jesus is concerned with what goes on inside a person. Just keeping the rules, even religious rules, will not save anyone. What is needed is a loving heart which expresses itself in helping those in need. No one else may see what we do but God knows, because he is present in every loving act.

Give me, O Lord, a caring and compassionate heart.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.

PRAYING WITH THE CHURCH
INTENTION
That Christians may not be discouraged by the attacks of secularized society, but with complete trust, may bear witness to their faith and hope.
