We are often troubled by terrible and tragic things happening around the world - earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, the hole in the ozone layer, abnormal changes in weather, pollution, AIDS, wars, racial conflict, social unrest, famine, flood, hunger, and so on. Then too we are often personally troubled by health problems, family problems, financial problems, and more.

Turning to the Scriptures, we often hear the words: "Do not be afraid". The prophet Isaiah describes God as keeping in perfect peace all those who trust in Him, all those whose thoughts turn often to the Lord. The Gospel assures us that all those who truly follow Jesus, those who hear His words and live accordingly, are safe even in times of great affliction, for their houses are built on solid rock. Advent is a time when we are called to turn in trust to the Lord, believing He fulfills all His promises.

Lord, grant us the peace You have promised, internal peace and joy in the face of all turmoil and trouble. Give us the strength to stand firm in our faith, and to trust in You in times of trial, so that our weakness becomes Your utter strength.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.

PRAYING WITH THE CHURCH
INTENTION
That Christ, meek and humble of heart, may inspire those responsible for nations to use power wisely and responsibly.
