John is filled with a sense of excitement and joy. Something wonderful has happened, and he can scarcely find the words to express it to others. He has seen, heard, touched something glorious, powerful, and joyful - God shining through a human being. He wants to share this with as many as possible. But the greatest part of this event is the fact our life is shared with the Father and the Son. That means that we can experience God while still on this earth. It means we are part of God's household and family, and as John tells us elsewhere, even the friends of Jesus. Wonderful indeed, but do we believe it in our heart of hearts? Is this what we share with others? Have we truly experienced the power of God in us? The faith that we share must be one of joy and hope, rather than something gloomy or negative. And we cannot give what we do not have.

Two people can see the same thing and come to different conclusions. Both Peter and the Beloved Disciple raced to the tomb and both saw that it was empty. But Peter leaves the tomb rather puzzled; it's empty, but what does it mean? John, on the other hand, saw and believed; he understood what it was all about. His understanding had nothing to do with intelligence, but everything to do with his closeness to the Lord. We are to be people of spiritual understanding and not just members of a religion, so we must follow Jesus faithfully.

Lord, deepen my spiritual understanding.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.

PRAYING WITH THE CHURCH
INTENTION
