Everything is given to us; we don't deserve anything - Paul instructs the boasting Corinthians in today's reading: "we are fools on Christ's account", and, "in Christ, you are wise". Paul himself only boasts of his weakness, so that "the power of Christ may rest upon me". He truly understands the paradox of faith he is content with weakness, persecutions and difficulties for the sake of Christ: "For when I am powerless, it is then that I am strong."

What a contrast this is to today's society and culture! How may Christ be all in all to each and every one of us - who call ourselves Christians - the followers of Christ? Paul's answer is clear, it is in responding to an insult with a blessing, bearing persecution patiently, trying to reconcile when slandered. Unlike the Pharisees, Paul's actions are based on his strong convictions, and his passionate love for Christ, not on the rigid law or strict interpretation of it. His conversion to Christ is thorough and consistent. His Lord is above the law; the One who sets the law. Such is obviously the message Jesus gives to His disciples as He responds the Pharisees in today's Gospel.

Let us trust and live out the response of the Psalm, "the Lord is near to all who call upon Him", by sharing our hearty desires, feelingsˇKin our prayers.

Lord, be our all in all in our daily lives, and know that You hear, love and fulfill us as You promise!

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.
